Session 19

Sitting in the tavern, Harald emerges from his trauma trance, and joins the party taking stock of their surroundings. Bori, in turn, seems to fall prey to his own dreams, and his eyes take on a glassy look.

The bartender, a Minotaur, points out that they weren't there a moment ago. He says that they don't even look like they belong in the New World.

They examine Kineeta, and realise that it must have been ground up Lenthereum metal. They deduce that Kineeta had cast a spell on herself to put herself in a coma to protect against the Lenthereum poisoning.

Faefina, Gronk, and Harald introduce themselves to the bartender, who turns out to be called Luigi. The party books rooms, and order up a feast. He asks about the mage he sees with Lenthereum poisoning, and it turns out that he knows more than appears. He points out that the party had best befriend the Cranes, and carries Kineeta up to her room. He asks if the party needs a cleric from the True Way to take a look, but Faefina declares herself capable.

The tables at the bar have a number of children at each, with an adult at each table teaching the children various skills. Gronk and Harald head outside to work out where they've been transported to. It's a coastal village, and a local tells them that they're in Roanoak, in the region of Lolรณkhi.

Harald looks around and finds a muscular gnome hammering out a spear, with a human apprentice. Harald asks for new armour and a halberd. The blacksmith declares that he does not enchant anything (wink).
He presents a halberd that deals lightning damage (2d6 lightning dmg), and Harald accepts and trades in his old halberd. He also provides some full plate armour, and tells them to be good to the people of the new world.

Harald has a flashback to Lady Hillaria walking through a camp he was stationed in, and saying that the imminent mass death from war would make her rich.

The party ask around to see if anyone can identify magic items, and are pointed to the local Crane mage. She declares that the necklaces are joined, and allow them to cast Heal themselves once a day, at the cost of health of the other. Three times a day, as a bonus action, they can cast as Healing Word. Once a month, they allow for the same option (and cost to the other) with Regenerate. Once a year, it allows for casting True Resurrection, but at the cost of the life of the other.

The mage asks if the party would like to make some money by clearing out the creature that has taken up residence in the local cave system that also has many cave paintings that they wish to examine. The nature of the creature is hard to translate, but seems to be flesh. IncubumorumDomus is the closest name she can translate to. She mentions that it's four hours ride away, and Gronk offers to buy horses, declaring that he only has 20Gp so hopes he can afford them. Faefina stares her down and she provides the horses at no cost.

She cautions that the beast has been resistant to the magic of the shamans. Gronk realises that if it's made of flesh, necrotic might be best.

After eating, Gronk heads up to rest. A Minotaur Crane in the next room greets him and introduces himself as Deelio, and asks about Kineeta.

Faefina, getting ready to sleep, sees some glowing goo outside the window for a second, but then it disappears, seemingly in a westward direction.

The next morning, the party stocks up on rations and heads towards the cave. Faefina rides with expertise, while Gronk and Harald have their lack of skill in riding made up for by the horses.

After three hours of riding, the party sees a group of men around a campfire, speaking in their native tongue. One addresses them in Common, and says that they look like they come from the Old World. They say that they have travelled from the far (west) coast on the order of their shaman, to announce that the god of order and the god of commerce have ceased to exist, and their place has been taken by one new god. They do not know which god it is. Their chieftess, Memento, ordered them to tell the world. They say that another god has also stepped into another vacuum, and this god is more hopeful than the others.

They also say that they lost their brother to the monster in the cave.

As the party ventures into the cave, they see the odd blood smear and scattered bones. Stepping through into a larger room, they see a massive mound of rippling flesh. Gronk casts Friends on it, and tries asking it's name, to little avail. Harald does have time to cast Know Enemy to study the creature, determining that it has an AC of 17 and Str of 20. Harald steps forward to launch the first blow.

Harald hits it twice, dealing 33 Dmg. Lightning from his improved halberd flashes through it.
Gronk calls for him to step back, and casts Shatter on the ceiling. It doesn't open the roof, but rocks collapse down onto it, dealing 32Dmg.
The creature oozes towards, and from an orifice a fleshy tentacle whips out at Gronk, dealing 14 bludgeoning dmg. Harald uses the opportunity to deal another 14 dmg.
Another tentacles whips out at Faefina, but misses.
It bites down on Harald, hitting him and dealing 10 piercing and 3 poison dmg.
Faefina tries hitting the creature, but misses, even with Gronk's help form the Ring of Harmony.
As a bonus action, she casts Spiritual Weapon, which does hit the beast for 10 Dmg.
The creature's flesh is now rippling in pain.
Harald hits the beast once, dealing another 10 Sla and 9 Lig Dmg.
Gronk steps back and casts Shatter on the ceiling again, dealing another 31Dmg.
The beats slithers back a little, and lashes out again, missing Faefina and Harald, but almost hitting Gronk - except that Harald is able to cut it before it reaches Gronk.
The creature oozes forward and spews liquid over the party, dealing 21 acid dmg to everyone.
Faefina casts aura of purity, lending resistance to poison and adding saving throw advantages to the party.
Her spiritual weapon deals an additional 6 dmg.
Harald hits the beast three times, and frightens it as his halberd slices through the flesh and takes the beast apart.

The party is left surrounded and covered in flesh, blood, and acid. Faefina's whiskers twitch spasmodically.

The party determine that many of the cave paintings are still intact, and find diamonds to the value of 36 platinum. Faefina realises that the diamonds are a form of faeces, and begins to throw up. Harald realises that the flesh that makes up the monster was an aberration and a mixture of multiple creatures.

One more gem has been carved and set into adamantium.
